The Zahra Foundation recognises that financial abuse and disadvantage are some of the biggest barriers to women leaving and remaining free of abusive relationships.
One of the ways Zahra Foundation aims to address this is through the provision of our Opportunity Knox small grants program which was introduced in March 2017. Since that time we have been able to distributed over $60,000 to over 187 families in need.
We believe that building women’s capacity and supporting them to create a pathway to economic independence supports them to break the cycle of violence and abuse in their lives. Rhiannon was just one of our grant recipients. You can read her personal story here.
If you would like to make a donation to support this program, just click DONATE.
These grants can support the costs associated with education and accessing or sustaining employment. Grants of up to $500 are available over a 2 year period to those families who are connected to a domestic and family violence service.
How can I access a grant?
- To be eligible for a Opportunity Knox grant you are required to have a needs assessment (inclusive of income assessment) and a completed application from a domestic and family violence support worker. We are unable to accept self referrals.
- The domestic and family violence support worker can download the Opportunity Knox Guidelines and Application Form or contact the Zahra Foundation Office via email at email@example.com or telephone 08 8352 1889.
“I just wanted to thank the Foundation for the help they have given me. I just received a call from the uniform shop to advise that my daughter’s uniform for her new school is ready for pick up and that Zahra Foundation have paid for it. I really appreciate the help you have given my children and I as we are in financial hardship and purchasing my daughter’s uniform has helped tremendously. Thank you so much again” …….Grant recipient
